AP & T delivers cutting-edge technology to Belgian university
November 2005
An entirely new industrial press for research use was dedicated on Friday, October 21, at the University of Liège in Belgium. AP and T is behind the delivery, and the research concerns so-called thixoforming.
The technology is based on heating a workpiece (such as steel or aluminum) prior to forming to such high temperatures that it is nearly liquid.
The hope is that the technology will make it possible to produce better and stronger products and parts. The automotive industry is the one that has shown the greatest interest in thixoforming so far. The press that has now been dedicated in Liège was delivered by AP and T early this summer. The press is entirely unique in AP and T's product line. "The fun thing about this project is that we have been entrusted to make a delivery for use in cutting-edge research. This technology is still in its infancy, so it will be really fun to see how it develops," says AP and T Project Manager Bo Larsson.
